For most a holiday to Nepal is one of the memorable trips of their life, add heli-skiing in the heart of the Himalaya and you end up with a trip that is almost beyond belief! To describe Nepal is difficult, describe flying around in a helicopter in the most spectacular and impressive mountain scenery you can find and then ski it, is almost impossible.
Heli-skiing in Nepal is a true adventure. Heli-ski the great Himalayas is a total experience and an extraordinary way to discover the mysterious and beautiful Nepal. Nepal possesses one of the most beautiful snow clad mountain range in the world. The season is from mid February to the middle of April, with March being the heart of the season.
A typical heli-ski week begins by arriving at Kathmandu where you rest and relax from the flight. You then fly out to Pokhara which is the area of operation. When you heli-ski in the Annapurna region you stay at Pokhara the entire week which is the one of Nepals nicest towns that’s its along Lake Fewa. The entire area has spectacular views of the Annapurna Mountain range.
Your stay will be arranged in the best lodge that Pokhara has to offer, thus making your heli-ski trip very comfortable and luxurious. You will begin the day early and ski a majority of the runs in the first part of the day. The usual wakeup call is at 5 am with breakfast at 5.30 am. After breakfast you will pack and board the helicopter at 6.15 am and start heli-skiing.
At the bottom of each run you would have a short break with soft drinks and snacks. You will ski 4 to 6 runs per day and will return to your lovely lodge at Pokhara for lunch. The rest of the day you are free to explore the town and the surrounding area.
Though we arrange heli-skiing trips in the Everest region too, from experience we have found the Annapurna region to be the better area to operate out of. The location is good, access into the areas we heli-ski out of is good and the skiing and snow conditions are excellent. You will heli-ski in the north and south side of the Annapurna and both sides are unique in their own way. The south side has spectacular views of the south face Annapurna, Fishtail peak and surroundings peaks .
The South side is also known as the gem of Nepal's Himalaya. The North side has spectacular views of Annapurna II, III & IV. In both areas these are the main features and they are very much in front of you and are very big. You therefore don’t need to zoom in to to capture a picture of these peaks. If anything they may not fit into the frame!
At The Explorations Company we can arrange a standalone heli-skiing week or it can be an addition to a very interesting journey through Nepal that includes its unique culture and jungle safaris, or a spectacular Upper Mustang exploration, by helicopter or trekking. We look forward to some historic turns with you in Nepal's Himalaya.
