Exploring beautiful Rajasthan by Bicycle and Train

Exploring beautiful Rajasthan by Bicycle and Train.jpg

Cycling isn’t new to anyone however at The Explorations Company we invented a perfect way to rediscover the world slowly, to see it and to absorb it. Cycling and train tours of Rajasthan can be very thrilling without compromising on any comforts.

We can make them as active as you want them to be or we can include just one such adventure activity for you. Bespoke holidays offer you the flexibility to include all sorts of things that you dreamt of doing but never got quite around to planning.

Rajasthan is certainly my favourite destination and experience tells me that the wonderful cities of Jaipur, Jodhpur and Udaipur usually do make it to the top of everyone’s wish list. If you are planning a holiday to this colourful region, you may want to think of including an exciting day cycling for few hours through rural Rajasthan followed by a ride on a narrow gauge railway.

Though we are capable of arranging cycling experiences at several destinations within India, one that can be incorporated easily is the cycle ride from Deogarh to Phulad. This is a fairly easy ride and can be enjoyed by both the young and older generation too.

Deogarh is a small village 135 kms from Udaipur and 142 kms from Jodhpur and a great place to break the journey. However we can make the stopover even more interesting for you. We can arrange a custom designed cycle ride from Deogarh which is a 4 hr ride following the small beautiful road through the rocky countryside to Kuanthal and Aasan (20km).

From Aasan you turn off to Dewair (37km) on national highway no 8. This whole area is beautiful with many hidden lakes. You will gain about 130 metres on your way to Dewair, cross the highway and descend the Aravali hills through forest for 18km losing over 400 metres. It’s a spectacular downhill ride.

At Nagagaon you turn right for Phulad. From here onwards it is a flat road all the way to Phulad going through various villages. One could carry a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the forest or could plan to have lunch at a gorgeous heritage property called Rawla Jojawar on the way to Phulad.

You leave the bicycles here to board the train ride to Kambli Ghat Station. The ride up the ghats is beautiful with the Phulad reservoir in the valley. The train stops at Goram Ghat which is famous for its langurs. The locals pray to them and feed them.

When the train arrives it gathers in hundreds of people who climb the train. Fortunately they are all very friendly. The train ride is 26km and climbs up 310 metres. The spectacular train ride ends at Kambli Ghat station.

The movie - ‘The Man Who Would be King’ was partly shot on this train. The palace at Deogarh is just a 5 km ride from the station. You will return to the palace for the night just in time for a Mewari meal prepared using old family recopies’. The palace has two restaurants but head to a secluded balcony or terrace where you can enjoy a quiet romantic dinner.
