Why a Shackleton Centenary Voyage?

In August 1914, Ernest Shackleton and his expedition team set sail for Antarctica on the Endurance in the hopes of becoming the first to make a complete land crossing of the Antarctic continent.

Whilst sadly the team never achieved their original goal after the Endurance was trapped in pack-ice, the story of what happened next and how a great explorer ensured all his men returned home has become an epic saga of triumph over adversity and one of polar history’s most inspiring journeys.

On the centenary of the Imperial Trans-Atlantic Expedition an expert team of six explorers including Seb Coulthard FRGS set sail in 2013 to recreate the iconic rescue mission embarked upon by Shackleton to Elephant Island and South Georgia.

Now you too can embark on a truly unique chance to travel to the southern islands and the White Continent in the company of some singular special guest speakers.

Seb will be on board the recently refurbished luxury cruise vessel, Hebridean Sky, on two select voyages in November 2016 and again in February – March 2017 where he will reveal the extent of this epic historical tale and give you the ultimate insider’s guide into just what it was like to undergo this harrowing journey.

In addition, Angie Butler, the author of a biography of Shackleton’s right hand man, and Sunniva Sorby, a member of the first female team to reach the South Pole unaided on foot, will join Seb in complementing the extraordinary expedition leader team aboard these Antarctic voyages.

Where should I go?

This voyage allows you to visit some of the key sites from Shackleton’s historic voyage and experience the dramatic glaciers, ice cliffs and stunning wildlife of the southern islands and White Continent for yourself.

You embark the Hebridean Sky in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the birthplace of the Tango.   You will then cruise in the Southern Ocean and explore the rich and incredible history and wildlife of the Falkland Islands and South Georgia Islands.

You will travel to the South Shetland Islands and Elephant Island, visiting the area where Shackleton’s party beached and survived for four months after the Endurance sank.

Then the ship will cruise around the Antarctic Peninsula, taking in the scenic wonders and astounding wildlife of the White Continent, before returning via the Drake Passage to Ushuaia. (Itinerary and embarkation point varies for second voyage in March 2017 but with the same content and duration).

All the while you will be in the company of some of the finest expedition leaders currently in polar waters onboard a truly wonderful small vessel, and the expedition leaders will show you the wonderful wildlife of this area.

In addition to this truly remarkable and unique opportunity to travel to Antarctica, we have also negotiated an exclusive additional service for our clients in Buenos Aires before or after your voyage.

‘Greetings. this has turned out to be a paradise in so many ways....so a big thank you from us.

Wonderful support from your company over here....we were met at the airport (with flowers!!!!!) and introduced to our personal guide who is fabulous. Can't get over the attention to detail ....cool flannels, chilled water, fresh juice on arrival, bag full of thoughtful goodies for our trip, wonderful rooms with bathrooms bigger than our bedroom at home(!) and we were upgraded to a suite and as I write we are listening to tropical birdsong as we look out over the lagoon from our balcony. Wow!!!!!

I could go on but I'll spare you.

Thanks a million

Judy and Mike’
