Alfajiri Villas offer everything you could wish for from a luxury beach escape in Kenya: total privacy, complete flexibility, stunning views and proximity to most pristine beach.

Alfajiri Villas make for a sublime short stay at the end of an East African safari, or indeed work perfectly as a stand-alone beach escape or a honeymoon! There are three individual and private villas nestled on the edge of Kenya’s most idyllic beach; the possibilities here are vast!

These are the most exciting coastal villas in Kenya, offering an exclusive beach retreat. Everything here is designed to make your stay perfect, from the completely flexible ‘as you like it’ cuisine, to daily meetings with the owners (if you wish) to discuss your requirements and activities for the day.

They are located on Diani Beach which is one of the most beautiful and pristine stretches of coastline in Kenya and can offer bare-foot solitude and relaxation, or high-octane adventures; whichever you please!

Cliff Villa

Perched on the cliff-top overlooking the Indian Ocean, this villa offers a stunning view and privacy in your own self-contained home. This is ideal for families of up to eight with four bedrooms to accommodate adults and children, but this would be a perfect romantic get-away for two or indeed a fine villa for a small group of friends to take together.

I thought the turret suite on the top floor was phenomenal with a 270-degree view of the ocean and a sofa for one to sit and take in the views. There are also two double-bedrooms, each with their own private verandah, and a twin room which is perfect for younger children.

Additionally the whole family can enjoy spending time on the large verandah which wraps around the front of the villa – I enjoyed lounging on the hand-carved sofas and looking out to the horizon, feeling the gentle sea breeze and just completely unwinding.

There is a private pool to splash in or relax beside and your meals can be taken in your villa or on the verandah as you please. What a phenomenal way to end a day; dining with your family on the top of a coral cliff above the perfect Diani Beach!

Garden Villa and Beach Villa

The Garden Villa is situated on beautiful green rolling lawns which flow from the private pool and terrace down to the intimate, talcum powder beach. This villa has four bedrooms each beautifully designed and appointed with en suite bathrooms and is ideal for four couples travelling together to take exclusively.

The Beach Villa sits only steps from the beach and is surrounded by palm gardens which offer complete privacy. Step out from the villa and feel sand between your toes – what more could you ask for from a luxury Kenyan beach escape? This has three double rooms and a twin room and is ideally suited to two sets of friends staying together, or a small family.

Both the Garden and Beach Villas are individually designed with beautiful and elegant Robinson Crusoe-style architecture that includes every luxury one could wish for; the makuti roof shelters a large verandah open to the ocean views and overlooks the villa’s private pool and gardens. The okra floor and wooden beams along with the other outstanding details add to the feeling of relaxed luxury.

Why did Alfajiri Villas win an award for the best service worldwide?

Alfajiri Villas are owner-run and managed with some of the highest standards of service I have come across anywhere, nothing is too much trouble at Alfajiri!  Indeed the judges at Harpers and Queen concur as they recently awarded them the prestigious title of ‘best service worldwide’, a fine endorsement indeed!

On my visit I found the owners Marica and Fabrizio to be fantastic hosts; they were warm, welcoming and efficient and organized the activities that I wished to take part in effortlessly on a daily basis. They work closely with their team and each villa has its own private Butler. Ours was outstanding, providing fantastic service at any time of day or night according to our requirements, but also he was discreet and allowed us the privacy to relax when we wanted to unwind in solitude.

What can I expect from a holiday at Alfajiri villas?

The team at Alfajiri will bend over backwards to ensure that your every wish is met and even exceeded. Most guests spend time on the secluded beach or simply relaxing in their stunning villa.

However if you would like to do something a little more energetic, Marica and Fabrizio are on hand to organise any number of exciting activities for you, and also have fantastic relationships with nearby suppliers to offer a vast range of experiences. You have a driver at your disposal at any time to take you further afield too, should you wish.

There is a coral reef just offshore of Diani Beach which offers fantastic opportunities for snorkelling and diving. This also serves to protect the shallower waters off the beach so that they are calm and perfect for families who enjoy swimming, paddling and kite surfing.

I selected to go snorkelling from their ngalawa (local boats) at the reef and saw the beautiful corals and fish. In the afternoon I indulged in the daily massage (which is all part of the service) and enjoyed taking time to relax and truly unwind whilst being thoroughly pampered! Then, feeling like I was walking on clouds, I floated back to my villa to enjoy the delicious supper.

Each day the freshly-caught seafood is prepared by the excellent chefs and includes crab, prawns, lobster and many types of sea fish including yellowfin tuna, dorado and snapper.

These are all put together in the kitchens which have a Mediterranean influence (Fabrizio and Marica are Italian), producing flavour-packed dishes bursting with freshness! Salads, fruits and vegetables are bought from local farms supporting local farmers too. To top it all off, they have a good selection of quality South African and South American wine to accompany their dishes.

The following morning I asked to visit a village local to the Diani beach area and my driver took me a short distance to meet with the exceedingly warm and friendly locals. I was able to visit a community project too and interact with the warm and welcoming locals.

Later I took a dhow safari with a private guide to explore the unspoilt Kisite Marine National Park. Dhows are traditional East African boats with sails, usually painted in blues and black and are my absolute favourite way to traverse the islands and archipelagos off the East African coastline.

On this trip we sailed through the crystal clear azure waters, spotting dolphin pods on the way, to explore the small islands and coral reefs of the Marine Park. The marine life is abundant here and whilst snorkelling over the reef we saw many vibrant species of fish, eels and some turtles. Rays, green turtles and hawksbill turtles are often seen as well as dolphins and seasonally, humpback whales and whale sharks are spotted.

Alfajiri allows one to be as relaxed or as adventurous as one pleases! If you want the ultimate downtime, walking along the powdery beach (you can walk five miles along the shore in each direction from the villas!) or being pampered, then this is a perfect holiday for you.

However you are seeking more from your beach retreat, this is an adventurer’s paradise! Other activites that can be arranged for you at Alfajiri include:

  • Deep sea fishing
  • Diving and diving courses
  • Kite surfing
  • Sky diving
  • 18-hole championship golf course
  • Safaris to Shimba Hills to see safari wildlife including elephants.
  • Quad bike excursions to Shimba Hills.

Family holidays at Alfajiri Villas

Children of any age are welcome at Alfajiri and a nanny service is included in the price of your stay - the staff are wonderful at entertaining children to allow the adults time to relax! The chefs will prepare the children’s meals at any time to suit them, and will tailor the meals to the children’s tastes and requirements.

Where are Alfajiri Villas located?

Nestled on the edge of the Indian Ocean, the Villas are located on Diani Beach, widely considered the best beach in Kenya. It takes a short one-hour flight from Mombassa airport, which is very well-served from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta airport.

It is also possible to fly directly to Mombassa from the UK and some European airports. If transferring by charter or scheduled light aircraft from a safari, regular flights come from the Maasai Mara, Samburu and Nairobi Wilson into the airstrip which is only 5 minutes from the Villas.

I would highly recommend Alfajiri Villas on the Kenyan coast for families, couples or groups of friends alike. Please do feel free to contact me for more information.
