Beverly and Dereck Joubert’s first trip to Duba Plains in Botswana’s northern Okavango Delta didn’t have an auspicious beginning. The flood plains were high, their vehicle got stuck and they wound up sleeping in it until they could be rescued. But even with that scratchy start, the National Geographic filmmakers and conservationists were beguiled by the area—the open, lush, grassy plains dotted with watery channels and some of the densest concentration of wildlife in the Delta.
