Jembisa Bush Home, Waterberg, South Africa

In the breathtakingly beautiful mountains scenery of the Waterberg, Jembisa is a genuine bush home on its own private game reserve, the Palala River Reserve. This stylishly relaxed lodge is perfect for family safaris or small groups of friends or couples looking to experience true African hospitality and diverse wildlife experiences (many unique to Jembisa) and in a malaria-free environment.

Jembisa Bush Home was originally built as a family home in South Africa and for many years the owners lived there. The same family still own and run the reserve and with their presence Jembisa has retained a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.

Staying there really does feel like a holiday to one’s home in the bush with personal collections available to all in the library and games room.  The heritage of this safari lodge has given it a unique atmosphere of warmth, care, fun, peace plus an intangible 'special something' that is hard to define.

Where is Jembisa Bush Home located?

Situated in beautiful wilderness above the Palala River in the Waterberg region of the northern Limpopo province of South Africa. It offers a wide range of wildlife and safari activities that are flexible to suit all ages and interests. Easily accessible from Johannesburg and malaria-free.

What sort of accommodation is available at Jembisa Bush Home?

The lodge is beautifully built from local stone and thatch which creates a sense of harmony with its surroundings. The five large, spacious bedrooms are en-suite and decorated with natural materials and a contemporary take on colonial style. White linen with red and ebony accessories adorn the beds, shallow copper basins rest on polished vanity units and directors’ chairs beckon from private balconies.

There is a separate bunkroom allowing adults privacy and children independence and space to play and cots are available for the youngest visitors. For the adventurous, it’s also possible to spend a night or two camping out under canvas. Sleeping under the southern stars and waking with the dawn chorus and rising sun is a truly memorable experience.

What Activities are available at Jembisa Bush Home?

Jembisa’s bush experience has something for everyone.

Whether you wish to relax in style or be more active, there are a host of options available at Jembisa. A refreshing swim in the pool in summer, which is heated in winter; tennis on the floodlit court; an essential oils massage on the sundeck; a visit to the bushman rock art; bush walks on the trail of wild game or a traditional game drive, day or night, in open Land Rovers – all are possible. Game on the reserve includes giraffe, zebra, leopard, brown hyena, hippo and crocodile, with opportunities on night drives to see aardvark, civet cats and porcupines.

The Waterberg area offers many interesting things to do and see.

Does Jembisa Bush Home cater for families with young children?

Whatever age, all children love Jembisa, enjoy a thrilling safari adventure, are educated in some of the wonders of the natural world and leave as mini-game trackers.

For families to share this experience is a never to be forgotten holiday. At Jembisa family safaris are a speciality and they offer a very wide range of unique activities designed to give a full and rounded depth to the safari.

As they are small they are flexible with their safari programme to cater to the ages and interests of each family group. 3 bedrooms with child-safe annexes

Special accommodation is available for children. They can sleep in the bunk room, or we can add an extra bed into the bedrooms. They can sleep out under the stars...we'll make their stay something they'll never forget.

Meals and mealtimes are flexible to suit the needs of each family and activities of the day. Meals are made fresh and ‘African’. For example there would be zebra burgers or warthog sausages on the menu.
