Amanwana is on a tropical Indonesian island, not far from Bali. Well, not far geographically, but the experience is far away from the nightlife and busy beaches of the mainland. This is deliciously serene seclusion, with nothing around except jungle, sand, and ocean.
The idyllic seclusion lends itself to long days of lounging on the beach, napping on your private deck, and playing in the warm seas. The entire island is a nature reserve and the only way to reach Amanwana Moyo Island, is by sea plane or Helicopter. Once there, though, life is anything but primitive.
The beautiful resort, with its exotic, timber bar and touches of Indonesian authenticity is sprinkled with lovely, mood lighting, creating a setting that oozes romance and relaxation.
With its 20 super-luxury tents, the Amanwana is Moyo’s only resort, sitting directly on the shores of this tiny island escape, there guaranteeing you exclusive tranquillity. A chic, pristine take on traditional south-east Asian design with its rich, dark wood throughout and impressive tent-roofing, the Amanwana makes being one with nature more than comfortable.
You'll sleep in romantic, luxurious tents, each juxtaposed against a canopy of greenery. They're big, too, and partially open to the warm air. Outside, a stone deck provides the perfect place to take in the sights and sounds of the jungle.
Fresh seafood and tropical fruit are mainstays of the gourmet meals served in the dining room. And some of that fruit might even end up in the cocktails you sip at the open-air beachfront bar. For a spectacular diving and snorkelling site, look no further than the calm waters right in front of the resort.
Arrive from either Singapore or Hong Kong into Bali’s International Airport and board a 45-minute seaplane over Lombok’s mighty volcano toward the secluded Amanwana resort in the West Sumbawa regency.
A helipad is also available on the island should you arrive by chopper. Beyond the beaches and tropical, turquoise waters, the island also boasts a wildlife nature reserve and a protected marine bay where you’ll be able to experience nature at its absolute purest.
You will discover the best of Indonesia’s magical and colourful sea life either with a scuba diving lesson or by whacking on a snorkel. Alternatively, you can visit Komodo Island, thanks to the resort’s personal cruiser, and see the famous Komodo dragon in its natural habitat.
Amanwana features twelve identical standalone safari tents located on the island’s beachfront rainforest fringe. 58 square metres in size, the tents feature hardwood-flooring and high-ceiling with solid foundations, wooden walls, picture windows and wooden outdoor decks. The tents are well-appointed to offer all modern comforts such as air-conditioning, Wi-Fi internet and spacious en-suite facilities.
By booking 8 or more tents, you can make it your own private camp offering unmatched privacy and the ultimate private island adventure. The tents are divided into two categories: Ocean Tent and Jungle Tent.
No holiday is perfect without fabulous food and Amanwana will not disappoint you. The chefs specialise in Indonesian and Western cuisines and most of the ingredients are sourced from the resort’s organic garden and local fishermen.
Being an island paradise, the fishermen’s catch of the day is a definite highlight of the daily menu, which is masterfully tailored to suit individual tastes. The resort has a teak bar and beach-side restaurant, and alfresco beach and garden dinners, starlight dinner cruises, romantic sundowners as well as private barbecues can also be arranged to celebrate the island’s outstanding natural wealth. There aren’t many places in the world where you can sit atop a volcanic ridge and sip champagne while revelling in uninterrupted views of the Sun setting over the sea.
Moyo Island and the surrounding Flores Sea offer fabulous opportunities for active explorations. It is about escapism – about indulging in utter remoteness and pristine wilderness without ever losing that comforting sense of security and luxury. Dive, snorkel, take long strolls on the blissful beach, explore jungle-clad trails in search of rare wildlife, bathe under waterfalls, relax in a spa, or sip wine gazing at a star-filled night sky – Moyo Island is one of the world’s most ethereal destinations.
Children of all ages are warmly welcomed at Amanwana and babysitting can be arranged with prior notice. Diving explorations are not offered to kids under 10 years of age. The resort has a fun adventure playground for children and a wide range of engaging and exciting experiences including fish feeding, coconut leaf bird making, beach activities and swimming and snorkelling in the sea.
Eight degrees south of the equator, Moyo enjoys a warm, tropical climate year-round with the most agreeable months being May to October. Humidity is highest between November and March, during the rainy season. Even during the heaviest rains, however, the sun is rarely out of sight for long.
The monsoon months of February and March are particularly green and frequently free of rain. This is also the prime time for spotting whale sharks, giant manta rays and other migrating sea life.
