Kenya walking safaris

49-kenya-1-1 kenya walking safaris.jpg

Try a walking safari with one of Kenya’s top guides, through such diverse areas as the Kakamega Forest, to the edge of the Maasai Mara, to the outskirts of Samburu, across the Laikipia escarpment and along the Great Rift Valley.

All of our walking safaris are entirely private - you will never join a group - so whether it is just two of you, or a family of six or eight people or more - we tailor each walking safari to each client and their fitness ability and general interest.

In the Loita Hills in Kenya: stay at a wonderful lodge on the outskirts of the Maasai Mara for a night or two beforehand and then start your Loita Hills 5-day walk (we can reduce the time to a minimum of three nights), where walking is the key – this is one of the prettiest areas! Many of our clients, regardless of age, want to undertake this walk as part of an overall safari, whilst some will have just a couple of nights on safari at the main camp and spend the next five nights walking.

This is the perfect way to obtain a wonderful understanding of the bush and the general environment which surrounds you; learn about the medicinal properties of trees and plants, and the folklore attached to them. Perhaps witness a local ceremony or festivity that might be taking place whilst you are there; Nothing is contrived - which makes the experience all the more natural and uplifting. Most people do not want to be confined to a vehicle all day, which makes a walking safari the obvious answer - whether you want to do a conventional Kenya safari beforehand or afterwards is completely up to you!

Walk with the Maasai and their mules and learn about their culture, as well as seeing gentle wildlife and waterfalls. This is a really beautiful region and the birdlife is phenomenal too. It is such a relaxed way of exploring nature.

In Laikipia and the Great Rift Valley, you can either walk during the day, game-viewing on foot with your superb guide or stay overnight at a luxurious farmhouse, or perhaps undertake a 4 or 5-day walking safari, camping out at night. This is all with one of the finest guides in Africa.

Walk in Laikipia aided by camels and headed up by your nomadic Samburu tribesmen, who teach you all about their culture en route. This is a fabulous and relaxed way of seeing the countryside, as well as learning about a different culture. These walks are for a minimum of three nights and you can choose the kind of tent you would be most comfortable sleeping in - some are really luxurious!

Walk from your camp in Tsavo East for the full day, returning back to your gorgeous camp in the late afternoon. This region is famous for its wonderfully dust red elephants, as well as buffalo and lion.
