Zimbabwe Family Safaris

family safaris lead.jpg

Zimbabwe offers one of the finest wildlife experiences in Africa and her people are warm, generous and friendly, perfect for a family luxury safari. This country offers some wonderful experiences for families with both younger and older children alike.

Hwange is a wonderful national park, renowned for its predators – in particular, the lion and the rare wild dog and there are some fantastic tented safari camps and lodges here. Perhaps you might like to take a tented mobile camp on a private safari with your own dedicated guide and vehicle, and spend the days game-viewing by vehicle.

Learn to play drums and go on short walks in a private concession, learning all about the footprints left in the sand and how to identify them. Learn about the plants and trees, too. The guides are experienced to taking children on safari and interact with them making learning about nature and the environment in a fun way.

The guides will establish where your particular interests lie- birds, bugs, creepy crawlies, big game and then concentrate on those but also bringing in other animals that form sometimes symbiotic relationships with these animals. Such as baboons and impala often walk together- the baboons act as extra sets of eyes for the impala and can warn them on the dangers, tick birds do a very effective cleaning job removing unwanted insects from buffalo, and get a meal in the process.

Then there is Victoria Falls which offers so much – either just as a point of relaxation or as a place where there is so much on offer! Try your hand at white water rafting, elephant back riding, canoeing, bungee-jumping, zip wire, horse-riding, micro-lighting, fishing, seeing the Victoria Falls and perhaps the lunar rainbow at certain times of the year. We can also arrange for children to see local schools and villages. There are some excellent hotels with swimming pools and so much to do!

There is also horse-riding and opportunities to go for sleep-outs, or fishing for one of the best fish to catch – the tiger fish – on Lake Kariba. For the older teenager, we cannot recommend highly enough canoeing down the Zambezi River on a three night camping trip. This is just sensational and takes place one of the most beautiful regions imaginable, the Mana Pools.

There is also an incredibly luxurious lodge where one can go out on game drives, be involved in the local villages and communities, go on game walks, learn all about ecology and have sleep-outs. Or for something incredibly relaxing hire a houseboat on lake Kariba and sail down to Matusadona National Park , seeing elephants and hippo – look out for crocodiles too and do some fishing and bird watching from small tender boats. This is simply sensational and a wonderful way to end your bespoke luxury safari!
