Horse-riding Safari in South Africa

1-horse-riding-safari-in-south-africa-1-1 lead.jpg

We have several exciting horse riding safari options available in South Africa. From riding in the Waterberg Mountains, to a dedicated riding safari amongst the big five in Mpumalanga, near Kruger, to more gentle riding in KwaZulu-Natal and for those looking for just a few hours of riding, there is the Cape.

It’s great fun to do some wine-tasting in the wine lands by horseback, which avoids the breathalysers, or alternately having a good canter along a stretch of beach!

In the Waterberg Mountains, one can stay at a ranch or at a tented camp.  This is a real home from home and particularly good for families. They offer polo-crosse, western games, cattle herding or mingling amongst game and antelope. This experience caters for novices and experienced riders alike and they have a mixture of thoroughbreds and Arab-Boereperd crosses.

Combine this with another ranch close-by that has larger game for a wonderful contrast, or we have another excellent ride which is for experienced riders only and offers the ‘big five’. It is a combination of South Africa and the Tuli Block in Botswana.

In Mpumalanga, we offer two different rides. The first is a fast-paced wildlife safari for intermediate and advanced riders, camping out from point to point with tremendous scenery. This wilderness safari is for seven nights. The first three nights are spent at a permanent tented camp, followed by one night fly camping, two nights at a luxury lodge and the last night is spent back at your tented camp. The riding is between four-to-five hours per day and the horses are made up of Boereperds, South African warmbloods and crosses.

The second is a lodge-based safari that caters for novices and experienced riders, and is available throughout the year.

In KwaZulu-Natal, you can stay on a malaria-free, 2,500 hectare Arab stud farm where one can view game both on horseback and by vehicle. Accommodation is in a colonial Spanish homestead.

In the Cape, we can offer a day’s beach riding, or perhaps going on a wine tasting tour on horseback, polo in Plettenberg Bay, home to some of the best polo fields, as well as good riding in the general Garden Route and Cape area. We also offer wonderful riding in the Kalahari Desert, where you sleep out at night beneath the stars!

We also offer some of the finest riding clinics available! From flatwork clinics with an FEI coach and dressage rider, who teaches you how to have fun with your horse in all disciplines, based on the German Scales of Training, to being with one of South Africa’s finest horse whisperer’s, who demonstrates the art of speaking Equus and developing a greater bond and understanding of your horse.
