Choose from the vivid choice adventure sports in Kerala and let loose the adventurer in you.

Kayak the lagoons of Lake Vembanad …. Sunset is a perfect time to kayak on the lagoons of Kerala’s largest lake. The tranquil water shines pink and orange while birds return to their nesting areas in the green paddies for the evening. You’ll see Darters, Black Drongos, Little Egrets and more near the Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary. Follow the edges of the tall grasses of the paddies as large, traditional houseboats cruise by. Or explore the maze of palm-fringed canals that make up the “streets” of the surrounding villages. This certainly is the Venice of southern India.

Go bamboo rafting at Thekkady Wildlife Sanctuary …. Glide along tranquil waterways while watching for birds and animals. Photo opportunities meet you at each turn. The guides paddle or pole the handmade bamboo rafts to the best wildlife viewing sites—leaving your hands free for capturing the perfect shot. The peaceful sound of a dipping paddle relaxes, but you won’t fall asleep in this national park. You are on a real surfing safari! This eco-tourism program employs people from the nearby villages—some of them are even reformed animal poachers.

Hike and Bike through the forests of Periyar or the undulating hills of Munnar…

The dense forests of the Periyar Sanctuary are ideal gateways that can lead you to the mountain paths of Munnar where you can cycle yourself from the dense green to the high misty greens. While biking from side to side on these mountains, you will come upon many tea and cardamom plantations which are the pride of Munnar.

You can also go hiking across the hill trails winding through the cardamom plantations, the rubber and coffee farms, and the misty mountain forests. Besides Munnar the mountain areas of Palakkad, Wagamon and Idukki are also ideal for such activities. Hiking and biking is possibly the best way to travel around the pleasant green-carpeted hills of Idukki, the tea plantations & old British mansions of Munnar, the Eravikulam National park, plantations of Wayanad and the Sahya Hill ranges. For someone looking for less adventure a refreshing morning ride can be arranged from Fort Cochin. It is infused with colorful stories from the glorious past of Cochin that will make you experience the city from a local perspective.

The satellite town of Fort Kochi, a major tourist destination of the Cochin Islands, has an easy paced, whimsical vibe to it. A historic trading port, it still retains an old world charm which can transport you to centuries ago. Narrow cobble stone streets, cafes that open for business only in the late mornings and fishermen that line the coast with their Chinese fishing nets blend in the jigsaw of contrasting activities with ease. Most of all, Fort Kochi and its Siamese chunk of old city, Mattancherry are best explored on cycles.

Trek and camp in Kerala's mountains and valley ….

An array of geographical wonders ranging from the grasslands of the Western Ghats at Munnar to the Periyar Wildlife sanctuary, Kerala offers a number of trek routes that let you explore the heavenly beauty of this green state. Setting up a camp at 7000 ft above sea level in Munnar is simply an unforgettable experience.

Trekking through these high altitude areas in Kerala offers stunning views of the mountains and the gurgling streams. Apart from that, a camp at Gavi, amidst exotic flora and fauna will take you to peak of thrill. Have a glimpse of life in a tropical forest with flying squirrels, herds of elephants or even a tiger keeping them company by trekking in the sanctuary.

If extreme adventure is your idea of fun, Kerala has a lot to offer ….
