The Petén region of northern Guatemala covers almost one-third of the country but is the least populated. The most well-known site is Tikal, where birds and wildlife abound in the surrounding jungle. For those fascinated by this ancient civilisation, this region also hosts many other, lesser-known smaller Mayan sites, such as Uaxactun and El Ceibal.
