For a highly exclusive Zambezi experience, one can stay on the private Kandahar Island in exquisite treehouse suites, with stunning views across the river and only a short journey from Victoria Falls, this is the ultimate romantic break.
Victoria Falls River Lodge is located in Zimbabwe on the banks of the legendary Zambezi just a few minutes upstream from Victoria Falls. There are only six Island Treehouse Suites, each completely private and expertly positioned to take in the spectacular views, with a personal butler on hand to ensure one has everything needed.
Constructed on stilts over the water, each suite nestles into the vegetation of the island and allows one to be immersed into the bush surroundings whilst providing the feeling of a tropical island. The spacious open plan layout and large windows provide for a delightful connection with the Zambezi, where one can unwind in luxury and away from the bustle of the outside world.
Each air-conditioned suite has its own private deck and plunge pool, from where one can relax with a glass of champagne and watch the water flow peacefully by. The bedroom is elegantly appointed and the sitting area has excellent coffee and tea-making facilities. One also has the benefit of complimentary WiFi and a safe to lock away a laptop or tablet, if staying connected is important.
The en suite bathroom is open plan and features a rain shower and a freestanding bathtub with the most wonderful views.
For an unforgettable experience, one can also stay in a two-story Starbed Treehouse and sleep in the open air on a sumptuous four-poster bed (with mosquito netting) suspended amongst the treetops, and listen to the gentle sounds of the water flowing by at night and then the sun rising in the morning. It's just breathtaking!
There are an exciting range of on-site and off-site activities available at Victoria Falls River Lodge, which include:
Children over 16 are able to stay in the Treehouse Suites, however it is best suited for a romantic break. Many of the activities, especially around Victoria Falls itself, have a minimum age limit and are better suited to teenagers and adults.
The best time depends on what one would like to see and do!
During November to early April, this area experiences the rainy season. The Zambezi River fills to dramatic levels and the views of the Victoria Falls are spectacular.
February to May (and peaking in April) is the flood season when the water levels are at their highest and the Falls have more water than any other waterfall in the world.
May to September is the dry season and game viewing is excellent. The days are warm and sunny at around 20°C and wildlife congregates around watering holes.
October to November is the hot season and daytime temperatures can reach over 30°C. The Falls have less spray and a clearer view of the rock faces of the Gorge. Game viewing is best during dawn and dusk when it is cooler.
Victoria Falls River Lodge and the Island Treehouse Suites are located less than a kilometre away from the Victoria Falls, upstream. The town of Victoria Falls is small and steeped in history and also the gateway to the Falls and all the adrenaline packed activities that come along with it.
The Lodge provides excellent access to two National Parks which are either side of the town of Victoria Falls – the Zambezi National Park and the Victoria Falls National Park. Zambezi National Park is excellent for safaris and one can see lion, elephant, buffalo and leopard. There are also 75 species of fish in the river and rich diversity of bird life.
