      Beginning in the popular northern city of Chiang Mai, the spectacular Wat Phra That Doi Suthep won’t disappoint with its far-reaching views across the mountainous countryside. After admiring this exquisite example of Lanna architecture, head south to join dinner preparations at the traditional Lanna-style home of the Raunkaew-Yanon family.       The next day’s journey brings you to the outstanding national park of Doi Inthanon. Boasting Thailand’s highest mountain, the park has good weather throughout the year and with its protected status offers a sanctuary for a diverse range of animal and bird species. This is a beautiful region for trekking with trails winding through the forest, cascading waterfalls and plunge pools inviting you in for a refreshing dip.

      From the beauty of the mountains to the cityscape of Mae Hong Son City. The drive will take you past Bua Tong Field at Doi Mae Ou Kor, a dazzling yellow field of wild sunflowers which blooms during November and December. In Mae Hong Son City, appreciate the golden spires that pierce the sky at Phra That Doi Kong Mu and the splendid aerial views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Later visit the Burmese-style Wat Chong Kam and Wat Chong Klang, two striking temples located lakeside in a recreational park near the town centre. This is also a great opportunity to visit the nearby outdoor market to browse colourful hill-tribe handicrafts and textiles.

      The next part of the journey takes you to Ban Rak Thai. En route, stop and make a wish at  Su Tong Pae Bridge – Thailand’s longest bamboo bridge – built in 2012 by local villagers to walk across the flooded rice paddies. Afterwards, it’s time for some well-earned pampering at Phu Klon Country Club Health Mud Spa. Indulge in a unique mud spa and enjoy an aromatherapy oil massage. As one of three natural mud hot springs worldwide, Phu Klon is renowned for its black mineral-enriched mud and offers a range of health and beauty therapies. 

       

      Ban Rak Thai Village in Thailand

      Continue to the small lakeside village of Ban Rak Thai situated in the mountains, where you can enjoy discovering the far-reaching views and colourfully decorated houses. Go on a bike ride or stroll through the charming village at your leisure for the rest of the day. Tea lovers also have the opportunity to taste the top-grade Ching and Oolong teas grown in the village.

       

      Then it’s on to Tham Nam Lot. A real trip highlight, this is the largest cave in the country with an other-worldly subterranean system gleaming with stalactites and stalagmites. End the day in Pai, exploring the local night market with its authentic street food and range of goods. Early risers can admire the far-reaching views from Yun-Lai Viewpoint at sunrise, before heading to Kong Laen, often referred to as “Pai’s Grand Canyon” to discover this remarkable natural phenomenon created by erosion before continuing towards the final destination of Chiang Mai.
