Home to some of the world’s most remarkable archaeological treasures, Luxor offers an opportunity to journey through millennia of history during your Egypt holiday.

Explore Egypt’s most iconic sites such as the Valley of the Kings, Karnak Temple, and Luxor Temple with expert Egyptologist guides to bring the past alive. Here, history and adventure blend seamlessly for an experience like no other.

Explore the Valley of the Kings with Egyptologist guide

Cross to the West Bank of the Nile and step into the world of ancient royalty at the Valley of the Kings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with 65 tombs carved deep into the desert hills. This necropolis is home to the most celebrated pharaohs of Egypt’s New Kingdom, including Seti I and Ramses VI. The richly painted walls inside the tombs reveal well-preserved scenes from the afterlife. The Tomb of Seti I (also known by its tomb number, KV17), is considered one of the most beautifully decorated. It was discovered in 1817 and remains one of the most complete royal tombs. Nearby, the twin Colossi of Memnon, standing at 18 metres tall, greet visitors at the entrance to the West Bank, representing Pharaoh Amenhotep III and offering a glimpse into Egypt’s monumental artistry.

"Karnak’s Hypostyle Hall, with its forest of towering columns, is one of the most photographed places in the world."

Luxor Temple and exclusive access to Karnak Temple

At the heart of Luxor stand two of Egypt’s most iconic temples: Luxor Temple and Karnak Temple. Previously connected by the Avenue of Sphinxes, these temples form an awe-inspiring complex dedicated to the god Amun. Karnak’s Hypostyle Hall, with its forest of towering columns, is one of the most photographed places in the world, while Luxor Temple glows at night, creating a magical atmosphere for an evening visit. We will arrange exclusive, out of hours access to the Karnack Temple for you with our expert guides for a deeper insight.

You can also visit Chicago House, a leading archaeological research centre, where we can arrange for exclusive opportunities to learn about the temple’s ongoing conservation efforts and meet experts in the field. This is the home of the Epigraphic Survey of the Institute for the Study of Ancient Cultures of the University of Chicago. Established in 1924, within Chicago House are artists and epigraphers, stone masons, librarians and archivists, as well as film and digital photographers who document all information on the tombs and temples in the area.

Privately guided tours in the Valley of the Queens

The Valley of the Queens served as the final resting place for royal women of Egypt’s New Kingdom. Its most celebrated tomb is that of Queen Nefertari, the beloved wife of Ramesses II. Known as the “Sistine Chapel of Ancient Egypt,” Nefertari’s tomb is adorned with murals depicting her journey to the afterlife. Carefully restored by the Getty Conservation Institute, the paintings are remarkably vivid, with colours untouched for over 3,000 years. Access is limited to a small number of visitors each day, so if you wish to visit this extraordinary site, we can secure your exclusive tickets in advance.

Hidden gems: Medinet Habu and the Ramesseum

Escape the crowds and discover two of Luxor’s lesser-visited yet equally stunning temples. Medinet Habu, built by Ramses III, is a vast temple complex second only to Karnak in size and detail. The temple is famed for its colourful reliefs depicting military victories, surrounded by ancient workshops and administrative buildings that once formed a thriving city.

Nearby lies the Ramesseum, the mortuary temple of Ramses II, immortalised in poetry as the “Tomb of Ozymandias.” Its colossal fallen statues and intricately carved walls rival the grandeur of Abu Simbel, offering a quieter, more intimate glimpse into the life of one of Egypt’s greatest rulers.

      Dendera Temple: Egypt’s undiscovered treasure

For those seeking something off the beaten path, a visit to Dendera Temple is a must. Located just outside Luxor, this well-preserved temple complex is dedicated to Hathor, the goddess of love and joy.  Dendera is known for its vivid astronomical ceiling, depicting the zodiac in brilliant detail. Few visitors make the journey here, meaning you’ll often have this ancient marvel almost entirely to yourself – a true hidden treasure of Egypt.
