The Maldives is the ultimate luxury island escape

A spectacular collection of atolls, the Maldives is a dream destination for a luxury holiday; the 1,200 or so low-lying islands that make up this tropical nation are unrivalled when it comes to the appeal of their whiter-than-white beaches and sumptuous accommodation.

A luxury holiday in Maldives is all about magic, romance, solitude, endless sea and infinite sky, and the islands are perfect for couples and families.

We can tell you where you'll find the best house reefs and the sleekest water villas. From rustic beach escapes to ultra-luxury private pool retreats, we will hand-pick the best locations that are specific and bespoke to your requirements.

The Explorations Company, where no two journeys have ever been the same

And, with many resorts inhabiting their own private islands, the Maldives provides the sort of seclusion you may only have dreamt of, as well as the warmest of welcomes. Combine diving amid spectacular marine life with the opulence of a five-star hotel at a resort.

Undergo soothing treatments in a sanctuary amongst lush vegetation. Revel in the intimacy only a private island can offer by dining at your ocean-view villa. Luxury holidays in the Maldives are a feast for the senses.

Each resort has its own island, offering the highest standards of luxury. With powder-white sandy beaches that drift into bright, warm waters, you're sure to have a relaxing retreat.

Visit the Raa Atoll islands on your Maldives holidays and stay in a lagoon villa, which sits out in the water on stilts. Enjoy time lounging in your own private pool, or swim in waters filled with tropical fish. If you're lucky, you might see the natural phenomenon of The Sea of Stars, where the sands sparkle a bright electric blue, created by bioluminescent phytoplankton. Either way, discover a sea of stars above shining in the night sky.

With so many pristine islands perfect for snorkelling and water-based activities, from canoeing to jet skiing, we will find you more than one resort to fall in love with.

Some things to do

  • Dolphin Cruise - Enjoy a cruise out into the Indian Ocean and admire the vibrant seascape of the Maldivian Islands whilst on the lookout for dolphins. You'll get to top-up your tan sunbathing, capture picture-perfect island beaches on your camera, and see wild dolphins in their natural habitat. Keep a close eye on the waters and you may even see a whale shark.
  • Big Game Fishing - Take to the crystal-clear waters and try to land the biggest catch. With a bit of luck, you could snag a giant sailfish, a yellow fin tuna, a colourful dorado, a fearsome barracuda, or even an elusive wahoo. A day big game fishing is a thrilling way to spend your time.
  • Luxury Maldives Spa - A luxury spa is relaxing at the best of times, but the Maldivians take that idea one step further. Enjoy a full menu of treatments and unwind with a massage in one of the most unusual settings on the planet: under the ocean. Underwater spas give a new name to luxury – relax and watch the tropical fish swim by.
  • Parasailing - Sail above the atolls of the Maldives and see the islands in all their splendour. Enjoy the different shades of waters with their network of corals, try to spot dolphins, reef sharks and enormous whale sharks. Gaze out across a series of unimaginable, paradise bays. What better way is there to admire the full beauty of the Maldives?

When to visit

With a tropical climate, the Maldives enjoys warm weather all year round. Temperatures rarely fall below 20 degrees Celsius, and usually hover around 30. The best time to plan holidays to the Maldives is from December to April, where there is little rain and no humidity.

From May to November, the Maldives blossom with the coming of rain and the vibrant vegetation grows ever more lush. It's a great time for scuba-divers to spot reef sharks and hammerheads, too.
