This is a real adventure in the foothills of the Himalayas. From here the mountains of Darjeeling and Sikkim beckon where the Singalila Ridge trek offers one of the greatest mountain walking routes in the world. On a clear day in November, with the air washed clean after the monsoon, the entire panorama of the Kangchenjunga Massif is spread seemingly within touching distance. This is an area of tremendous wildlife as well. After the rigours of the trek, Glenburn Tea Estate is a perfect stop on your Himalayas holidays. The tea estate which drops down to the Rungeet River provides some excellent and energetic walking and for a family the River Lodge on the banks of the Rungeet is perfect. You can fish, go rafting and enjoy barbecues and picnics as well as learn how to make tea! Glenburn is also a perfect spot from which to experience the awe-inspiring Darjeeling Himalayan Railway.
Further East into Assam is a wonderful estate for those who enjoy riding, offering wonderful horses and rides along the Brahmaputra River. And Assam of course has one of the greatest national parks in Asia - Kaziranga with its huge populations of Rhinoceros, elephants, birds and tigers - which are not very visible.
