Your luxury Chile holiday itinerary
The city at the foot of the Andes
SANTIAGO
Arriving in the Chilean capital, shake out the long flight by stretching your legs on a privately guided walking tour of this layered city—part cosmopolitan capital, part historical time capsule, part creative hub. Our favourite options include exploring bohemian Bellavista district, with its vibrant street art, cafés and the legacy of Pablo Neruda, or climbing Cerro Santa Lucía for its sweeping city views. If you’re a foodie, try delicacies like empanadas and mote con huesillo at bustling markets like La Vega. Follow your walk with dinner at Michelin-starred Borago, where foraged ingredients from the Andes and Pacific are exquisitely combined.
A river runs through it.
FUTALEUFU VALLEY
A short flight to Puerto Montt will see you begin your private Patagonian air safari. You’ll be in the extremely capable hands of South America’s finest bush pilot, Rodrigo Noriegas, who has logged over 10,000 flying hours in the extreme Patagonian wilderness as the personal pilot for renowned conservationists Doug and Kris Tompkins. Flying south in a Cessna 206 seaplane with Rodrigo, you’ll soar over snow-shrouded volcanic craters, rainforests and fjords before landing in the paradise of Futaleufu, where beautiful Pata Lodge will be your home for the next few days. Go rafting down the Futaleufu, fly-fish its turquoise waters, enjoy a horseback ride, learn beekeeping or centre yourself with some riverside yoga, before relaxing over pisco sours and a delicious dinner.
Solitude. Pure and absolute.
CORCOVADO NATIONAL PARK
Take your adventure up a notch, as you fly with Rodrigo over northern Patagonia’s magnificent landscapes to Corcovado National Park. Here you’ll land on an alpine lake to find a private lakeshore wilderness camp set up for you in one of Chile’s most stunning and least explored wilderness regions. Over the next 24 hours, hike some of the way up Corcovado Volcano for spectacular views of the surrounding peaks, lakes and forests; go wild swimming in the lake; cast a line for wild trout; look for puma pawprints; and, in camp, enjoy a barbecue and top Chilean wines beside a crackling fire and beneath star-filled skies. Remoteness never felt so good.
A glacier-carved paradise
PUMALIN NATIONAL PARK
Your private air safari continues northward to Pumalin National Park, a land of glaciers, deep valleys, waterfalls and pristine old-growth forests, where the erstwhile home of pioneering conservationists Doug and Kristine Tompkins has been converted into a top-notch conservation-focused wilderness lodge. Spend your time here exploring this natural paradise on superlative walks, and adventures by helicopter and boat. Join the ranger team here as they monitor camera traps and you may be rewarded with a sighting of one of South America’s shyest felines, the kodkod. And—if you come between January and March—take a marine safari to look for migratory blue whales in Pumalin’s offshore waters.
Volcanoes and monkey-puzzles
PUCON
Your air safari concludes in Pucon in Chile’s northern Lake District with a stay at one of South America’s finest lodges, the incomparable andBeyond Vira Vira. Explore the region on a guided hike through native monkey puzzle tree forest, mountain-bike along scenic trails or helicopter to the upper slopes of Villarrica Volcano for a picnic lunch with a difference. Take to the water in a kayak or on paddleboards, cast for trout in pristine streams and explore the area’s rich Mapuche heritage. Back at the lodge, cooking classes and cheese-making workshops showcase the property’s organic farm, while yoga sessions and outdoor hot tubs offer moments of quiet renewal. Evenings are for devouring gourmet farm-to-table cuisine paired with Chilean wines, before settling in by the fire to plan your next day’s adventures.

Great journeys need great places to lay your head. These are our tried and tested suggestions.
Hotel Bidasoa
Tucked away in Santiago’s stylish Vitacura neighbourhood, Hotel Bidasoa is a real gem. Here, you’ll find a calm ecologically sensitive urban sanctuary with easy access to the city’s top restaurants, boutiques and parks. The rooftop pool with views of the Andes is a large part of the attraction of staying at Bidasoa, as is the organic, locally sourced menu serving delicious dishes like beef brisket risotto and octopus with pejerrey.
Pata Lodge
