Overtourism, climate change and rising sea levels constitute clear and obvious threats to this island nation, and travelling with a light footprint is critical to ensuring the future health (and indeed viability) of both the people and the marine life that call these islands home. Our preference is always to partner with suppliers who operate responsibly and to encourage our guests to become engaged in local initiatives that support these aims, be it coral reef regeneration, whale shark conservation or community outreach projects.

Of course, visiting the Maldives need not mean you are confined to your resort. A day (or longer if you wish) spent aboard a private dhoni will let you snorkel pristine reefs and set foot on uninhabited atolls–with a candle-lit champagne beach dinner at the end of it.
