The baroque architecture of the original colonial buildings are beautifully preserve making this Bolivia’s most attractive city, founded in the 16th century on the wealth of the nearby silver deposits found at Potosi.
Also home to one of the oldest universities in the Americas, Sucre is Bolivia’s constitutional capital, and home to the Supreme Court of Justice and the National Library, among many other fine colonial architectural examples.
An hour south of the city, you can also visit the small town of Tarabuco for the Sunday market and to admire the local Yampara people in their brightly coloured traditional costume.
