The beautiful old colonial district of the city is a delight to wander about by yourself. Here you will feel immediately in Uruguay as you see most locals sipping their maté from their gourd cups through the day or eating some of the delicious fresh ice cream. Climb up to the lighthouse for stunning views of the city and river, and explore a few of the eight quirky little city museums in the old quarter.
