What sort of accommodation is available aboard Alexa J?

Alexa J is currently the only yacht in the Maldives that is designed for just one couple or a small family. At 38 metres, it is incredibly spacious, and beautifully blends the sense of old-world charm with contemporary comforts. The yacht features a Master Cabin spread across 30 square metres on the main deck with en-suite facilities and a walk-in wardrobe.

 

The main deck also houses an indoor living room with panoramic views, the bridge and an open-air dining space. The upper deck consists of a rooftop lounge and dining area, as well as an open space for yoga and meditation. The rooftop lounge is ideal for stargazing and for sleeping out under the stars. The lower deck has a playroom with en-suite facilities that can be converted into an additional sleeping area for up to two children, making it perfectly suitable for a small family.

Alexa J’s décor was designed by her owner Veronica Blomgren, who is a renowned interior designer from Moscow. Its design is classic and elegant yet refreshingly contemporary with the shades of mulberry wood complementing the colours of the ocean, exuding an aura of ancient oceanic explorations.

 

There are six crew members on board, including a cruise director, chef, dive instructor and spa therapist. Menus are bespoke according to your preferences and the chef can masterfully pair them with excellent wines from around the world.

• Day 1: Arrive at Soneva Fushi: Upon arrival at Malé, you will be greeted by a representative and transferred to Soneva Fushi by seaplane. Stay in a private Water Retreat for 3 nights. Soneva Fushi’s newly built water retreats – the largest of its kind in the world – are designed to offer utmost privacy and fabulous ocean vistas.
• Day 2: Soneva Fushi: You will have the morning at leisure to relax and soak up the beautiful surroundings. In the afternoon, you will be taken to the Six Senses Spa where you can enjoy a soothing wellness therapy or treatment. The resort also offers a huge range of experiences should you wish to be more active.

 

• Day 3: Soneva Fushi: Enjoy a leisurely bike ride around the island in the morning followed by a non-motorised water sports activity in the afternoon such as kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, windsurfing and catamaran. In the evening, you will be treated to a magical candlelit dinner on a private sandbank set in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
• Day 4: Board Alexa J and begin sailing to Hanifaru Bay: After a leisurely morning, you will board Alexa J at the resort’s private jetty. The Cruise Director will be your dedicated coordinator onboard curating and adjusting your experience based on your wishes.
• You will spend the afternoon exploring Hanifaru Bay with its vibrant soft corals. This is an ideal spot for snorkelling, diving and underwater photography. Between May and December, you would have a good chance of spotting schools of manta rays. If desired, an accompanying marine biologist can be arranged for this excursion. Enjoy sunset cocktails and a five-course dinner in the evening.

 

• Day 5: Alexa J – Goidhoo: Explore Giodhoo – a small island with pearl-white sand in the southern part of the Baa Atoll. You will be taken on a guided hike around the island to discover rare freshwater lakes and a pristine tropical forest.Alternatively, you could also go snorkelling at a unique coral formation in the area called the “Rose Garden” or enjoy kayaking or kite surfing. Enjoy a lavish BBQ dinner on a deserted beach.
• Day 6: Alexa J – Innafushi: Continue to Innafushi, a natural reserve just two hours away from Goidhoo. It is an uninhabited island located within the UNESCO Bioshphere Reserve and is renowned for its magical underwater treasures. After dinner, if desired, the crew can set up a personal cinema for you on the top deck of the yacht.

 

• Day 7: Alexa J – Hithaadhoo: Early morning, you will set sail to Hithaadhoo – the third largest island in the Baa Atoll. Here, you will explore the Addu Nature Park, which encompasses the beautiful Eydhigali Kilhi wetlands and protected Koattey area. This is a big game fishing destination where you can cast a line and try your hand at catching sublime sustainable fish such as snappers and groupers. Indulge in a fabulous private picnic on the beach, candlelit dinner and seafood BBQ.
• Day 8: Alexa J – Kendhoo: Explore the northern part of the Baa Atoll, visiting Kendhoo and other nearby islands by tender, and enjoying a relaxing swim in the ocean.

 

• Day 9: Alexa J – an exclusive castaway experience: Today you will enjoy one of Soneva Group’s founders’ – Sonu’s favourite experiences: An exclusive lunch prepared by your own personal chef on a private island – this will be your very own castaway experience! Spend the day on the private island and enjoy a refreshing dip in the lagoon.
• Day 10: Soneva Fushi: Enjoy a dive in the morning whilst your luggage is transferred back to Soneva Fushi. After a special farewell lunch onboard, spend the afternoon at Soneva Fushi relaxing in your beautiful villa.

 

• Day 11: Soneva Fushi: Enjoy a special floating champagne breakfast in your own private pool. Spend the remainder of the day relaxing in your villa or enjoying the spa facilities. In the evening, a special star gazing experience will be arranged for you by the resort’s resident astronomer. Soneva Fushi has a dedicated observatory with a state-of-the-art telescope.
• Day 12: Soneva Fushi: In the afternoon, you will be taken to Soneva Fushi’s private sandbank to enjoy a relaxing time on your own. Both Alexa Private Cruises and Soneva Group are renowned for their focus on long-term sustainability and conservation, and this joint venture will only enhance their efforts.

 

ALEXA Private Cruises are currently working on multiple, hugely innovative features that will significantly reduce their carbon footprint. These include:

• Installing WaterGens on board to create pure drinking water from thin air using condensation. A small dispenser can make up to 80 litres of drinking water per day.
• They are also in the process of developing their own patented glass crusher that can turn glass bottles into sand particles.
• They plan to recycle all their food waste on board and have both their vessels running on hybrid/bio-diesel engines by 2024.

When is the best time to visit the Maldives?

The Maldives is one of those rare destinations that is in season all year around. However, the most popular time, when the weather is dry and warm, is between November and April. Being a tropical paradise, the temperatures are consistently in the range of high 20 degrees and low 30 degrees Celsius.

For those seeking ideal sea conditions for diving and snorkelling, January to April is the best time. It is a fantastic destination for Christmas holidays. The manta season runs from May to December in the Baa Atoll.
