Set up a tent at your overnight camp on the ice under the midnight sun. You could also try sea-kayaking, snowshoeing, climbing or diving, getting you close to the marine wildlife such as seals and penguins.
Are you looking for a more personal way to connect with the Antarctic continent and truly experience this vast and remote wilderness? We can advise you on which voyages we would recommend to enhance your Antarctic holiday and incorporate opportunities to try more active adventures in the Polar Regions. You may decide to try an overnight camping adventure away from your expedition ship and sleep under the midnight sun, revelling in the silence of the seventh continent. You will never have a camping experience like this anywhere on Earth.
As you are camping in an otherwise uninhabited region, not only do we ensure that the strictest environmental controls are in place to adhere to the Antarctic Treaty but we ensure that you will have a very comfortable night’s sleep in the land of the midnight sun, waking up to the most breath-taking scenery and the gentle sounds of the ocean or cries of nearby penguin colonies the only background noise, as the early pioneering explorers would have done.
Take to a sea kayak with the resident ship’s guide to glide along the surface of a tranquil bay amid colossal icebergs, while playful seals and penguins swim around your kayak. Some kayaking experience is preferred but you do not need to be an expert and your guide will choose the best time to head out, so that you can float among small icebergs with towering blue ice cliffs framing the ocean.
Experience these beautiful clear polar waters in narrow bays out of the reach of even the smallest expedition ships. Keen hikers can go beyond the confines of the Antarctic shoreline using snowshoes to traverse areas of deeper snow to take a journey on foot into the hills surrounding the bays of the Peninsula. On certain voyages, we can also arrange for experienced divers to head beneath the ocean surface for a rare and unique opportunity to see graceful marine life in its underwater habitat.
If you want to experience the ultimate active challenge then, why not fly from Chile into a comfortable base camp in the Antarctic interior, from which you could be spending days glacier skiing where no-one has set foot before. With a team of expert polar guides, and armed with your own previous climbing experience, you could be ascending mountain climbs to gain the most incredible unique panorama over the landscape of Antarctica. We will help you choose exactly the right Antarctic voyage for you to combine shore landings with active adventures.
