Fly to the South Pole

Fly to the South Pole lead.jpg

Antarctica has to be one of the ultimate destinations for travellers with an adventurous spirit and who yearn to see for themselves its spectacular ice cliffs and unique wildlife species. Penguins, whales, seals and seabirds inhabit the southern island archipelagos and Peninsula of these remote oceans and the White Continent itself.

Most Antarctic journeys involve cruising by expedition vessel, perhaps via the Falklands and South Georgia to the Antarctic Peninsula, a journey of some two days by ship.

The rewards are a vast number of species of penguins from Gentoo, Adelie, Macaroni, Rockhopper and Chinstrap to the beautiful King penguins at Salisbury Plain. Leopard, Elephant and Weddell seals languish on ice floes in between searching for food while giant cetaceans such as Blue, Humpback and Killer Whales ply its cold nutrient rich waters in summer.

This is truly a wildlife adventure of a lifetime and a wonderful way to experience the polar regions for the first time. If however, you yearn to see the most iconic and spectacular species of penguin in all of Antarctica as well as taking the opportunity to reach the southernmost point on the planet, then it requires a little more effort and certainly a pioneering attitude to reach the remote but vast colonies of Emperor Penguins and the South Pole.

Experience one of the most breath-taking journeys you will ever take. Your journey begins from Punta Arenas in southern Chile as you fly by private transport jet to base camp. While you will find the accommodation basic, it is comfortable and warm and an incredible base from which to explore – you can even try skiing or climbing mountain peaks from here.

But for most, the attraction is the Emperors. Fly by small ski aircraft to the remote south coast of the Weddell Sea on the Antarctic continent to arrive at your private field camp close to a vast colony of emperor penguins. This is more than just wildlife viewing; you will literally live with the emperors and witness first-hand their amazing adaptation to the Antarctic environment.

Combine this incredible experience in the heart of the wilderness of the White Continent with a flight to the South Pole, covering in a few hours what the first intrepid explorers took months of hardship to reach. Become one of only a very small proportion of the human race to have reached one of the remotest places on Earth and be inspired by the spirit of determination and discovery that inspired a century of Antarctic explorers to journey to this very spot.

We would be delighted to arrange for you this truly inspirational journey of a lifetime that offers not just a unique wildlife experience in the heart of Antarctica and a chance to reach the infamous South Pole monument but offers the chance of true adventure and experiencing the continent as the first explorers did, a decade ago.
