      Tanah lot in Bali, Indonesia

The iconic sea temple Tanah Lot

Whether you wish to immerse yourself in untouched nature or are intrigued by Balinese people and culture, a tailor-made holiday to Bali provides you with the perfect opportunity to discover the island differently

We’ll help you take in lesser-explored destinations, have thrilling adventures and reimagine classic touring – without compromising on comfort and exclusivity.

Like Kyoto for Japan and Rajasthan for India, for most first-time visitors, Bali represents the very essence of Indonesia. Although some parts of the island around the popular coastal resorts have lost their traditional charm due to excessive tourism, there are still a few hidden gems that showcase Bali’s paradisiacal charm that has captured the imagination of travellers for decades.

To provide some inspiration for your next trip to Bali, I’ve curated a 10-day itinerary which takes you off the beaten track and includes some of the most exclusive and extraordinary experiences on the island.

      Surfing in Tabanan in Bali

      Catch a wave in Tabanan.

      Munduk coffee plantations in Bali

Cycle through the verdant rice terraces of Munduk.

"Explore the iconic seaside temple of Tanah Lot, enjoy idyllic picnics on remote beaches and indulge in a thrilling surfing lesson with a former world number two Australian surfing legend."

Explore the ‘rice bowl of Bali’

Upon arriving at Ngurah Rai International Airport, you’ll be transferred to Tabanan, an area west of Bali that has remained relatively underdeveloped. From fantastic beach life to pristine countryside, Tabanan offers the best of both worlds and is the ideal location to start your unforgettable holiday in Bali. To get the most out of your time here, I recommend spending at least three nights.

Known as the ‘rice bowl of Bali’, the vast region of Tabanan Regency is famed for its magnificent rice paddies, unspoiled jungles, hidden waterfalls and remote volcanic black sand beaches. Explore the iconic seaside temple of Tanah Lot, enjoy idyllic picnics on remote beaches and indulge in a thrilling surfing lesson with a former world number two Australian surfing legend. For the ultimate adrenaline rush, opt for a canyoning adventure deep in the jungle.

Head to Munduk for a scenic cycling adventure

Moving inland, your next stop is Munduk in Northern Bali. A former Dutch hill station, Munduk is surrounded by pristine farmland, lush coffee plantations, beautiful lakes and stunning waterfalls. Visit the 11th-century Batukaru Temple and the UNESCO-listed area of Jatiluwih, where an expert nature guide will take you on an exhilarating cycling adventure through verdant rice terraces and picturesque countryside.

Over the next three days in and around Munduk, you can experience a plethora of activities including an ATV ride, hiking in the rainforest, log canoeing and snorkelling in the coral-rich waters around Menjangan Island. There’s also a unique opportunity to engage with a coral reef restoration project or you can even try your hand at preparing your own coffee in traditional Balinese style by roasting beans on an open fire and pounding them with a wooden pestle.

      Visit Bali’s cultural heartland

No holiday to Bali would be complete without a visit to Ubud. Although a major tourist centre, I would still highly recommend including it in your itinerary as it offers something for everyone, from sublime natural landscapes, quaint villages and ancient temples to world-class resorts, art galleries, boutiques and restaurants.

Adrenaline-seekers and adventurers can take on the thrill of the rapids on a private rafting adventure or hike up to the summit of one of Bali’s most active volcanoes for sensational views and magical champagne sundowners. If you are more interested in the cultural side of Bali, there are opportunities to experience a traditional spiritual blessing and cleansing ceremony, visit beautiful water temples and learn about the island’s rich artistic traditions from renowned craftsmen. For foodies, we can arrange a private cooking class in a local village where you will learn how to create delicious authentic Balinese dishes such as Nasi Goreng and Sambal. Or how about an uber-exclusive food safari by private helicopter, taking in amazing culinary experiences at some of the island’s finest restaurants?

      Discover the rest of Indonesia

If you have more time in hand and wish to explore other parts of the country, Bali can be combined with a trip to Sumba Island. Stay at Nihi Sumba, one of Indonesia’s finest eco-resorts and indulge in exquisite wellness and culinary experiences. Or, if you enjoy scuba diving and snorkelling, head to Amanwana on the remote Moyo Island and glide underwater with giant manta rays, sea turtles and reef sharks. You could also embark on a private sailing charter around the Komodo National Park on your very own luxury private yacht.

If history and culture are of greater interest, a visit to the iconic temples of Borobudur and Prambanan on the Island of Java is nothing short of a pilgrimage. Whatever your interests, we can design an itinerary to show you the best of this intriguing island.
