Kerry has always had a keen interest in nature and conservation and achieved a BSc (Hons) in Life Sciences through part-time distance learning with the Open University in 2011. Alongside her studies and continuing afterwards, Kerry worked in various roles for a Plumbing and Heating Spares Merchant, including Stock Control and a Systems Support role before transferring to the Head Office IT Team to work as a Software QA Tester. In this role Kerry achieved the BCS-ISTQB Certified Tester Foundation Level qualification and was part of a team that delivered a large IT project which was rolled out across the company’s 220+ branches as well as delivering various smaller projects.
After a short break to start a family Kerry sought a change in direction and was excited to join the Explorations Company. She has enjoyed learning about the safari industry and all of the fantastic destinations that the Company travels to, and is particularly interested in responsible and sustainable travel and the ways that tourism, conservation and community action are interconnected.
Kerry's personal favourites:
In recent years Kerry’s ability to pursue recreational travel has been hampered by the arrival of her two young sons who make any trip a mammoth undertaking! However in the past she has enjoyed various travels around Europe and the USA. Her personal highlights include drifting along the stunning Norwegian Fjords on a cruise; a weekend break exploring Bruges in Belgium during their annual music festival; wine tasting in the Rhine and Moselle valleys in Germany; exploring Rome’s history on foot (whilst indulging in delicious handmade gelato!); trekking to the top of Mount Vesuvius to peer into the caldera; relaxing by the water of Lake Garda in Northern Italy then driving through the breath-taking Dolomites; sampling sourdough in San Francisco and enjoying the 360-degree views of Seattle, Mt Rainier and the Cascade Mountains from the Space Needle.
More recently, Kerry enjoys getting out into the Cotswolds countryside with her family and pursuing a new interest (obsession) in sourdough baking.
