The teardrop-shaped island has so much to offer for everyone from temples and historical sites of cultural significance to wildlife both on land and at sea. There are also some stunning villas available on the south coast.
The villas range from older and more traditional houses that have been restored to their former glory as well as newly built mansions. These houses offer fantastic value for money, especially if you are able to travel outside of the peak times.
The locations are superb. The villas are either right on the beach, in the middle of Galle Fort, and there is even one that is flanked by jungle and paddy fields, but all come with a team of staff to ensure your comfort and total enjoyment whilst in Sri Lanka.
The designs are also beautiful, just effortlessly stylish and will not fail to impress. Staff can arrange excursions when you wish to venture out or this can be done in advance too, the beauty is the flexibility.
Many of the houses have incredible views, be it the dramatic waves beyond the beach, the rooftops of Galle or paddy fields. Whichever it is, enjoying a long cool drink from your terrace whilst watching the sunset will be sheer indulgence.
This is not only for big families or groups of friends though. Even for a smaller family or couples there are options to suit. Even for those with younger children a villa can be a wonderful idea, allowing parents to enjoy an evening meal safe in the knowledge that their children are just a few steps away and crucially…asleep!
During the day children can enjoy the freedom of space with enormous lawns to run around on and swimming pools to splash in. Sri Lankan people are by nature kind and gentle and so children love being around them, in my experience. Most importantly, children do love a ride in a tuk-tuk too!
Cinnamon Air operates eight-seater seaplanes either on a scheduled or private charter basis, and can whisk you from Colombo to a landing point close to your chosen villa and thus avoiding a long drive. Not only convenient but a great viewpoint too!
Of course, you don’t have to spend all your time down south. Sri Lanka has so much to offer, such as exploring the centre of the island through tea plantations and sites including Sigiriya Rock, or perhaps a few nights on safari... I recommend choosing a perfectly crafted itinerary to suit your interests.
Throughout the island there are some excellent boutique hotels with six rooms or less making them also ideal for exclusive use.
