This is our favourite way to explore India, Nepal and Bhutan, and the best walking is in the Himalayas!
On one of our Bhutan holidays, one may stay at comfortable lodges, although one can hike as much or as little during the day. It is entrancing, walking through pine forests and happening upon an ancient temple where all one can hear is the melodious chanting by the monks. Walks can be anything from half an hour to about six hours with your guide and are at a comfortable pace.
We also have a tented camp, Bumdra, in Paro where you walk to and overnight in a pop up tent for the night. This is exhilarating - for whilst you may be sleeping in a rustic environment, you still have the finest guides and of course, you have wonderful food prepared for you. Return to the lodge the following day for a shower.
For those wanting a dedicated trek in Bhutan, there is the challenging Jomolhari walk or trek. Considered Bhutan's finest walk, it lasts for eight days, following ancient tracks beneath the spine of mountains separating Tibet from Bhutan, before descending the valley above Thimphu.
Walking through unspoilt villages and beautiful valleys which retain their ancient Tibetan Buddhist culture, through virgin forest before emerging in high summer pastures at the foot of the magnificent, Jomolhari. The route crosses two high passes, passing two dzongs in wild, desolate landscape, before dropping back to the gentler delights of the cultivated valleys.
On our Nepalese walks, one walks from Annapurna to the foothills of the Himalayas, staying in comfortable, tented and lodge accommodation en route, accompanied by wonderful, knowledgeable Sherpa guides.
The lure of high mountain country with its spectacular scenery, isolated human cultures, rare wildlife and physical challenge is an irresistible addiction for many travellers. Expedition-style treks – with your own staff, camping equipment and porters or horses, is a perfect way to fulfil this need. Our treks in Nepal together with your expert, Sherpa guides last from 10 days to two weeks.
The treks operate with a minimum of two people so can be entirely tailor made for you or for your family or party of friends. They all take in the most extraordinary panoramic views. Have mesmerising views of terraced farmlands, forests and villages. Another walk or trek is 12 days. This private walk has been designed so that walkers can enjoy the splendours of the Everest region in comfort whilst being able to experience the local culture of the surrounding villages.
These are just some of the treks and walks that we can arrange for you:
