Chile’s diverse landscapes and isolated geographic location make it a paradise for those who love to strap on their backpack and venture away from the crowds. Remote valleys from desert to icefields and glaciers, edged by the ever-present Andes and a coastline dotted with islets and crystal clear fjords are all waiting to be discovered on a trekking holiday to Chile.
The true mecca here for serious hikers is the stunningly beautiful and rugged Torres del Paine National Park which boasts the famous W circuit, a 5 day hike that takes you through beautiful deserted valleys, alongside ice-blue glacial lakes and towards the base of the granite pillars or towers of the park, staying in simple local refugios in between a stay at your luxurious base camp where fine food and wine await alongside a choice of other excursions by bike, on horse-back or by kayak if you still have the energy.
If you have a group of friends of family, then let us know and we will gladly organise your own dedicated hiking guide and a private bespoke camp experience or perhaps even arrange a specialist wildlife photographer and naturalist guide to accompany you as you search out the elusive Puma and Huemul in the northern reaches of the park. A perfect combination for hiking fans is to then head across the border into Argentina to visit the stunning Perito Moreno Glacier and head to El Chalten for some amazing treks around Mount Fitz Roy.
Crossing the vast southern icefields of the south, arrive in the stunning Chilean Lake District and spend a day or two around alpine-like towns such as Puerto Varas on Lake Llaquihue before perhaps taking your own car and driving north towards Los Alerces National Park to hike among forests of native monkey puzzle trees before continuing to the town of Pucon to stay in a stunning design hotel or a ranch and luxury lodge.
Both make an incredible base for hiking in Villarrica National Park and some serious hiking up nearby volcanic peaks. You could also spend a day or two in the dense forest reserve of Huilo Huilo at some eclectic little local lodges, taking day hikes out for some great bird-watching or even a chance to spot local pudu (deer).
The possibilities for combining some amazing locations for hiking and a huge diversity of landscapes within the different reaches of southern Chile is endless. Contact us so that we can help you design your own perfect hiking explorations whether here or further south in Patagonia.
