      Your first introduction to historic Laotian culture begins with a visit to the working temple of Wat Visoun on the outskirts. After checking into your charming boutique hotel, your cultural immersion continues with a delightful private performance of ancient local folk tales by the Garavek Storytelling Theatre. Afterwards, take a stroll along the Mekong sand banks, and admire the majestic views of the river at sunset whilst indulging in cocktails and a local “Mekong Beach” tasting platter by candlelight. During the evening you can soak up the lively atmosphere at the colourful night market and browse traditional artisan crafts produced by the locals. 

      No trip to Luang Prabang would be complete without visiting the iconic Wat Phousi Hill in the centre of town, so a morning trip is ideal via a route that showcases numerous scenic viewpoints. Afterwards, explore the Old Town accompanied by renowned resident and architectural expert, Mr Francis Englemann. Francis is an independent consultant who was instrumental in entering Luang Prabang as a UNESCO World Heritage site. With his expertise, you’ll be guided through some of the town’s picturesque alleyways to explore some of the most beautiful mansions and ancient temples including Wat Pa Phai.

      The following morning begins before dawn with the opportunity to witness one of the most memorable sights in Luang Prabang, the ‘Tak Bat’. Observe from a respectful distance as hundreds of monks walk through the streets at dawn to collect offerings from local people during this ancient Buddhist daily ceremony. Later you’ll explore the scenic Laotian countryside before arriving at the enchanting Kuang Si waterfalls, where a beautiful picnic breakfast will be set up for you in a peaceful setting. Should you wish to, you will have time to enjoy a refreshing dip in one of the natural pools before cycling back to Luang Prabang.

       

      In the afternoon, you’ll experience the magic of life along the river, during a private boat trip along the Mekong with a local expert. You’ll have the opportunity to visit Pak Ou Buddha Caves at a quiet time whilst benefiting from rich insights into the significance of this sacred site that was declared holy by King Setthathirat in the 16th century.
