Highlights of your luxury Egypt holiday
Peeling back the layers
Cairo
With its Parisian-style boulevards and museums, Nile views and souks fragrant with cinnamon and cloves, Cairo makes a wonderful and deeply layered launchpad for a journey into ancient Egypt. With your private Egyptologist guide, enjoy private after-hours access to Giza’s great pyramids and the Sphinx, and travel through history at the newly opened and spectacular Grand Egyptian Museum. Back in the city, you’ll enjoy the city’s finest dining at Pier 88 and aboard an Oberoi felucca, and immerse yourself in Coptic Cairo and the Cairo of Nobel Prize-winning Egyptian author Naguib Mahfouz as you wander the labyrinthine alleys of Khan El-Khalili bazaar before concluding your evening at a whirling dervish performance in the open-air courtyard of the Wekalet El Ghouri Arts Centre.
Into Upper Egypt
Luxor
Luxor’s baksheesh merchants are in a league of their own, so our counsel is to avoid the stress and install yourselves in the peaceful sanctuary of Al Moudira on Luxor’s West Bank. You’ll be visiting the Valley of the Kings, and the temples of Karnak, Luxor and Hatshepsut as part of your cruise, so we’ll have a top Egyptologist guide you to some of Luxor’s other incredible sites from the Ramesseum and Medinet Habu to Deir El-Medina and Howard Carter’s private house. We’ve also included a dawn hot-air balloon flight, which will allow you to float serenely over Luxor as the sun’s first rays illuminate the ancient landscape below.
Scenes from a picture book
River Nile
Boarding the Gaia Dahabiyah, your floating home for the next six nights, settle in as you get under way for your Nile cruise. Your days unfold like a picture book as scenes of life on the banks of the Nile drift dreamily by, interspersed with visits to the extraordinary temples and ancient sites along the way. In addition to the great monuments of Luxor, you’ll visit Dendera, Esna, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae—all fascinating, all shedding a very different light on ancient Egypt. You’ll stop for refreshing swims amid breathtaking landscapes and enjoy a cookery class aboard as you explore Nubian cuisine. Evenings will see you dining on deck beneath the stars as musicians serenade you, or by candlelight on an island in the Nile. Eventually the great dunes of Aswan will hove into view as you arrive in the old kingdom of Nubia, a fitting place to conclude your Grand Tour of Egypt.
Where you'll stay on your luxury Egypt holiday
Great journeys need great places to lay your head. These are our tried and tested suggestions.
Four Seasons at Nile Plaza
Overlooking the Nile in Cairo’s Garden City, the Four Seasons at Nile Plaza blends urban sophistication with a deep sense of place. Interiors are polished but warm, with textured fabrics, Egyptian design cues and sweeping river views. Days begin with sprawling breakfasts at Zitouni, drift into cocktails by the palm-fringed pool, and end with dim sum at 8, the hotel’s sleek Chinese outpost. The spa’s hammam offers a welcome reset after Cairo’s sensory overload, while service stays gracious and intuitive throughout. Whether you’re museum-hopping or exploring medieval Islamic Cairo, this is the city’s most refined base.
Hotel Al Moudira
Removed from the tourist thrum on Luxor’s quieter West Bank, Al Moudira is a Moorish oasis of domes, intricately carved heavy wooden doors and ochre walls set among lush palm groves. Every corner tells a story, with hand-painted tiles, antique-filled salons and archways opening to secret sunny courtyards. Rooms are romantic and richly layered, with stained glass, carved wood and open-air bathrooms. The restaurant serves refined Middle Eastern dishes under lantern light, while the courtyard pool invites lingering between temple visits. Al Moudira offers a poetic counterpoint to Luxor’s grandeur—intimate, quirky and utterly enchanting.
Gaia Dahabiya
Sailing the Nile aboard the Gaia Dahabiya feels less like a cruise and more like time travel. With just a handful of cabins and suites, this handcrafted sailboat glides silently between Luxor and Aswan, away from the crowds and mooring up at sites the big tours miss. Interiors have a softly spoken elegance—think brass fixtures, crisp linens and vintage maps—while the shaded decks invite slow afternoons with mint tea and temple-studded views. Meals are freshly prepared, locally inspired and always served al fresco. There’s no Wi-Fi, and that’s the point: you’re here to drift, to read, to dream. Gaia offers something rare on the Nile—a quiet, deeply personal way to experience Egypt’s soul, one graceful bend at a time.

Take the train to Alexandria, where you can visit its remarkable library, frequent the haunts of poet Constantine Cavafy and visit amazing nearby archaeology projects.
Enjoy downtime on the Red Sea, or dive its spectacular coral reefs.
Head into Egypt’s western desert to explore the ancient citadel of Siwa and the oracle of Amun, once consulted by Alexander the Great.
