Some of us are just drawn to the magic of water and for many people the relaxing effects of being on or by the water are part of the rejuvenation that comes with a holiday. So, for those who like to take to the water, whether it’s for the gentle soothing of the sound of the ocean, or being on a river, or taking the helm and sailing under the guidance of a skipper, the sailing and houseboats that we have to offer add another dimension!
We offer private yachts in the Seychelles - perfect for going island hopping - or in Mauritius and Mozambique. In Madagascar, we have wonderful catamarans complete with skipper and crew, which allows you to fish, swim, snorkel and dive, spending the nights on private islands or on your boat.
In Tanzania and Mozambique we have a selection of gorgeous Arab dhows which you can hire for a daytrip or, being more adventurous, several days with a skipper who will navigate from one island to the next. This is a totally evocative way to travel, essentially stepping back in time to when the great Armadas of trading dhows, some of very considerable size, journeyed with the predictably-changing monsoon winds between Arabia and India to the ancient entrepot towns that dot the Swahili coast of eastern and southern Africa.
In Tanzania there are also possibilities to ring the changes to a beach holiday, especially if you dive, by staying for a minimum of three nights and perhaps up to a week on a catamaran which is fully kitted out for diving. It’s worth doing your PADI just to make the most of it!
In Malawi, we have a catamaran that can be sailed on this enormous inland sea for as long as one wishes – staying on board or on the shore and even arriving at your next destination by boat! This is also available for day sailing and local exploring – although once again the diving can be superlative so longer stays can make the most of the potential.
In Botswana, we have wonderful houseboats along the Chobe River on the border of Namibia. This is a wonderful way to view wildlife and the boats have smaller tender boats so that you can game view with your own guide as well. For any parties who are interested in fishing, this is a wonderful way to try and catch the renowned Tiger Fish!
