Latin America is a truly wonderful destination for those who, like ourselves, like to step out of a vehicle, get closer to nature and the communities of the region we are travelling in and go trekking. The pace slows down giving you time to breathe and take a look around you or have a chance to meet local people and find out about their traditional ways of life.
There are some incredible classic and less well-known trekking possibilities in Latin America. Not only can we arrange trekking in Peru to Machu Picchu on the Inca Trail, but also to Choquequirao or Cotahuasi Canyon or up some of Ecuador’s famous volcanic peaks.
Trek down the Copper Canyon in Mexico, along the W circuit in Torres del Paine, through the vivid deserts and salt flats of north-west Argentina or through the dramatic landscapes of Chapada Diamantina or the Gold Trail in Brazil – the possibilities for multi-day treks are endless.
Strapping on your backpack and heading off into the wilderness is all very well but while many of us love to explore these beautiful landscapes on foot, there are not so many who want to carry all their gear with them or stay in basic tents.
We have some brilliant suggestions though for those of you who love walking but don’t necessarily want to relinquish your comforts. A comfy bed and a great meal or warm hot-tub at the end of the day makes even the most exhilarating and challenging hikes so much more enjoyable!
Down in Patagonia, trekking through Torres del Paine National Park on the W circuit forms one of the region’s most iconic trekking routes. Whilst you may spend one or two nights in basic mountain refuges, in between this we can offer you some really special wilderness lodges or extremely luxurious glamping in yurt tents where divine gourmet cuisine and fine Chilean wines define your reward at the end of a long day’s journey.
Equally, in Peru, there are a number of incredibly breath-taking trails that lead to Inca sites or into remote canyons where traditional Andean communities still life much as they have done for centuries. Here, very comfortable mountain lodges can be found with no road access (all the materials were brought in by llama!) and yet you can still enjoy a comfortable bed, a proper en-suite bathroom and even a luxurious soak in an outdoor hot-tub!
Even on trails where no lodges exist, we can create a very comfortable camp with modern tents, camp beds and even your own personal masseur to sooth those aching muscles after a long climb up the mountain pass.
Wherever you wish to explore on foot, rest assured that we will provide the very best trail guides, equipment and plenty of great food to help you on your way and enjoy some of the most breath-taking scenery on the continent.
