Days 1 to 4: Kiroro – Pristine Powder & World-Class Skiing
Begin your journey in Kiroro, a tranquil escape on Hokkaido Island, renowned for its pristine powder and serene landscapes set in the mountain valley. With over 20 metres of annual snowfall, Kiroro offers an exclusive skiing experience, far removed from the more crowded resorts. Skiers of all levels will enjoy the varied terrain across Asari and Nagamine peaks, while off-piste enthusiasts can explore the untouched backcountry. For those seeking a more relaxed pace in this premium alpine resort, take scenic snowshoe treks through Kiroro’s peaceful winter scenery.
After exhilarating days spent on the slopes, immerse yourself in Japanese culture. Soothe aching limbs and rejuvenate with a private onsen experience (traditional Japanese hot spring bathing), and take an exclusive tour of Nikka Whisky’s Yoichi Distillery, where you’ll savour the finest whiskies crafted using traditional methods. Nearby, a short drive takes you to the historic harbour city of Otaru, where you can explore its artisanal treasures. Observe the delicate craftsmanship at Otaru Glass Studio or Kiataichi Glassworks and create your own glass masterpiece. Days 5 to 7: Niseko – Ski and Alpine Adventures
An hour’s drive brings you to Niseko, one of Japan’s finest ski destinations set against the majestic backdrop of Mount Yotei. Niseko features four interconnected luxury ski resorts that offer a variety of terrain to suit beginner skiers through to the most advanced abilities. Celebrated for its plentiful snowfall, often referred to as “Japow,” Niseko delivers a distinctive experience marked by its light, dry powder.
Over the next few days, immerse yourself in all that this stunning location has to offer. For adventurous skiers, take the 5-8 hour hike to the summit of Mount Yotei before an exhilarating opportunity to ski into the crater of this active volcano. For thrill-seekers, night skiing at Grand Hirafu is an unmissable highlight! For those preferring a more leisurely experience, consider a guided heli-skiing expedition through Niseko’s pristine backcountry. For a cultural twist, join a Japanese cooking class that blends traditional techniques with modern culinary innovation.

During your time in Niseko, stay at the exclusive contemporary apartments of Setsu Niseko. Days 8 to 10: Tokyo – The Iconic Urban Metropolis
Leave behind the serene alpine landscapes and fly from Sapporo to Tokyo, the dynamic heart of Japan. Here you’ll check into the opulent Mandarin Oriental Hotel and spend the rest of the day at your leisure or indulging in a private sake masterclass.
The next morning embark on a fascinating journey through Tokyo in a private car, accompanied by an expert local guide. Begin at the Tsukiji Outer Market, a well-known hub of Tokyo’s culinary heritage. Gain insights into the city’s food culture and participate in a sushi-making session led by a seasoned sushi chef, who will share the market’s fascinating history. Next, head to the historic district of Asakusa to visit Sensoji Temple (Tokyo’s oldest temple), and stroll along Nakamise Shopping Street. Continue to the charming Yanaka Old Town, to explore quaint alleyways and historic architecture. We can also arrange a lively Taiko drumming lesson if you’re interested in learning about this traditional ceremonial music. Your day ends in the dynamic neighbourhood of Akihabara with its unique subcultures, from anime to manga.
Continue your exploration of Tokyo with your guide the following day. Begin at the impressive Meiji Shrine, where you may witness traditional Shinto weddings in the serene forest setting. Later explore the city’s vibrant districts: from the high-end boutiques of Aoyama to the old-world charm of kimono shops and serene temples. You’ll be driven to Harajuku for a taste of alternative fashion on Takeshita Dori and visit the Design Fiesta Gallery for a colourful showcase of contemporary artists. Next, wander through Omotesando and visit Cat Street for its array of chic boutiques and cafes. Spend the afternoon in nearby Shibuya to experience the lively pedestrian crossing and see the famous Hachiko statue. Art lovers can visit the Mori Art Museum or Issey Miyake’s 21_21 Design Site in Roppongi Hills to explore cutting-edge contemporary art and design.
Days 11 to 12: Kanazawa & Yamashiro Onsen – Cultural Highlights
Begin your morning with an unforgettable journey on the iconic bullet train to Kanazawa, where you’ll enjoy a guided sightseeing tour. Renowned for its well-preserved samurai houses and the only living geisha quarter outside Kyoto, Kanazawa is home to Kenroku-en, one of Japan’s most celebrated gardens. Discover the vibrant seafood market, exquisite art museums, and the traditional craft of gold-leaf making. Enjoy a traditional tea experience at a renowned tea house before heading to Kaga Onsen. In this historic hot spring town, you’ll spend two nights at Beniya Mukayu, one of the finest traditional ryokans in the area and savour a delightful kaiseki dinner in the evening.
The following morning provides an opportunity to enjoy a leisurely day at the ryokan, becoming immersed in the tranquil atmosphere of Yamashiro Onsen. Explore the quaint town at your own pace, or opt for curated experiences such as hiking with a mountain master, visiting local artisans specialising in pottery and paper making, or participating in culinary sessions.
Days 13 to 15: Kyoto & Nara – Artisans, Markets, & Historic Shrines
Travel by train to Kyoto, the ancient capital, where you’ll enjoy a three-night stay at the opulent Ritz-Carlton, situated along the banks of the Kamo River. In the afternoon, visit Nishiki Market, followed by a stroll through the historic Gion district, renowned for its traditional wooden machiya houses and geisha culture.
The following day you’ll discover the iconic sites of Kyoto with an expert private local guide. Visit Tenryu-ji Temple and the mystical Sagano Bamboo Forest in the picturesque Arashiyama District. Other highlights include the tranquil Ryoan-ji Temple (the site of Japan’s most famous rock garden), the distinctive Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion), and the World Heritage site of Kiyomizu-dera. This private tour can be tailored to your interests, featuring experiences such as visiting craft masters in pottery and textiles, taking a private Ikebana lesson (centuries-old art form of flower arrangement), or an immersive bike tour of the city.
Start the following morning early with a pre-dawn hike to Fushimi Inari Taisha Shrine, famous for its thousands of vermilion torii gates, where you’ll explore the pilgrimage route around the mountain before the crowds arrive.
