Having worked in the travel industry for less than a decade, Vikki is, by Explorations Company’s standards a comparative newcomer. Having taken time out to start a family, Vikki has over the past few years been developing her travel knowledge and has so far found her heart lies in the enigmatic Far East where ancient traditions and modern life fuse together.
Her journeys so far have taken her to Japan, China, Singapore, Borneo and several countries closer to home. In addition to the Far East Vikki has a keen interest in the Indian Subcontinent, South East Asia and Latin America, particularly the Galapagos and Peru, as well the Middle East and the beaches of the Indian Ocean.
Vikki's personal favourites:
Nothing can beat seeing the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an for the very first time, the sheer scale and size is a little overwhelming at first and the history behind them is just fascinating. The Great Wall of China, though an obvious choice, is another highlight; my visit was made all the more special by visiting in December where snow-capped peaks made the whole area look and feel magical; it is often overlooked as a winter destination but if you don’t mind a cooler climate it makes for a great trip as there are fewer tourists around.
In Japan, the first glimpse of the notoriously shy Mount Fuji was exciting and the vistas from the fifth hill station are just glorious. The excitement of spending an evening in the Gion district in Kyoto trying to spot Geishas as they dashed in between tea houses is another favourite experience.
The sight of the elongated noses of the proboscis monkeys sitting in the treetops whilst on a cruise along the Kinabatangan River in Borneo and the lively Macaques playing in the Mangroves along the riverbank is a real wildlife highlight.
Closer to home, the cities of Rome and Prague are just superb and perfect for a long weekend getaway, I defy anyone to visit and not be in awe of the wealth of history and stunning architecture that is seemingly around every corner.
