The best thing to happen to cycling holidays has just happened in South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
We are delighted to offer the first gourmet cycling trails! These cycle journeys start from just one day to a week and include a full day in the Cape Winelands – which takes you through the wine country, doing wine estate tastings by bicycle. Meet the winemaker, cycle through the estate, have your tastings and do food pairings. Other rides include cycling through mountain passes with the ocean on one side, or even a township ride.
Then we have 3-day rides through the Cape, with one of our favourite rides being a 7-day garden route cycle where you have the opportunity to cycle, hike and kayak. Start off at Chapman’s Peak and see the penguins, then off to the winelands, sampling wine en route, Buffelsfontein Nature Reserve, and enjoy a guided cycle through the reserve with an armed ranger, getting to learn about the different animal and plant species, learning how to track game and of course getting up close and personal with the ‘big five’. Not only does cycling ensure a more intimate and personal experience, it allows you to get closer to nature and makes for some incredible wildlife experiences! This is not for those on a budget, but for those who enjoy their luxury and comfort, and who love the outdoors, too!
Make your way along the West Coast past an array of charming seaside villages, keeping an eye out for whales in season (July-November). Finish the day with a long walk on the beach of Paternoster. Dinner is a memorable event right on the beach. Lots of fresh air and some of the best food, including rock lobster and an assortment of freshly caught fish! Continue onto Knysna. These trips go up to fourteen days and are a combination of private and scheduled departures.
We also have a 2-hour guided cycle ride in Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
We can also offer mountain biking safaris in Botswana in the Tuli Block. This is an amazing way to see wildlife! Cycle either for just a couple of hours or even for a day, returning to your lodge or camp at night. The area is excellent for elephant in particular. Cycles are also offered for game-viewing at one of the South Africa luxury safari lodges that we recommend.
